Welcome to the Department of Mathematics and Applied Sciences of the Middle East College of Information Technology (MECIT). Mathematics - the queen of science - plays a vital role in technological advancements. In an undergraduate degree, Mathematics provides an excellent basis for graduate work in engineering, computer science, business management etc., and  for employment in fields like systems analysis, operations research, or actuarial science where mathematical reasoning is essential.  In MECIT, this department supports the Department of Computing, Department of Engineering and Department of Creative Technologies. The Department of Mathematics and Applied Sciences also offers other science modules like, Engineering Physics and Statistics.

Although the department plays a role as a support-department, it provides the basic and advanced mathematical skills that help the students to attain a better understanding of other technologies like computer science and telecommunications.

Objectives

• To equip students with the basic concepts and techniques in mathematics, statistics and physics in order to promote critical thinking and develop analytical abilities.
• To provide the required support to the programs offered in the College.
• To help students with their preparation for modules involving Mathematics, Statistics, and Physics.
• To promote problem-solving skills.
• To inspire students to appreciate the power of Mathematics and related disciplines.
• To encourage the students to become competent in the use of mathematical software as an  effective tool for computation and modeling.
• To motivate students to participate in the relevant events organized by other Higher Education Institutions.
